Abstract

At present social networks are becoming important in all areas of human activities. The future potential of social networks is high as it can be seen from their statistics on a daily, monthly or yearly increase in the number of their users. Therefore the purposes of this study is to discuss the current concept of social network sites and their classification. In addition, the authors of this study explore their use in education. This is done on the basis of literature review of available sources exploring the issue of social networks sites with respect to their role in education was used. A search was performed in the acknowledged databases Web of Science, Scopus, Springer and ScienceDirect. The findings indicate that SNSs have a big potential for educational purposes despite some limitations such as a lack of legal measures or a possibility of errors when sharing and exchanging information.
