Abstract

This chapter describes SCION's control plane, whose main purpose is to create and manage path segments, which can then be combined into forwarding paths to transmit packets in the data plane. We first discuss how path exploration is realized through beaconing and how path segments are registered. We then discuss path lookup and present the SCION Control Message Protocol (SCMP).
