Abstract

This chapter presents the notion of the PRISM taxonomy of best matching along with its 3 + 1 dimensions, as a taxonomic framework for systematic identification and specification of best matching processes in various and unrelated domains. Several examples from manufacturing, supply, and service systems are presented to illustrate and exemplify the features and applications of this framework. The purpose is to enable understanding and problem solving capabilities through analogical reasoning-comparative analysis of different matching processes by means of the PRISM taxonomy.
