Abstract

The functioning of agricultural systems is described and statistics for the annual and daily productivity of crops (including forage) on a worldwide basis are given. The influence of seasonal fluctuations on productivity are described with particular reference to perennial ryegrass. The partitioning of DM in annual crops is discussed. N was considered the main limiting factor in crop productivity.
