Abstract

The utilization of micro fibers has produced cementitious composites with significantly improved toughness or ductility. Research presented here is the feasibility study of micro-fiber reinforced cement composite (MFRCC) material for a machine tools structure to replace conventional cast iron material. A series of static and dynamic tests have been conducted to find out the most suitable design mix of MFRCC, which possesses many beneficial properties for fabricating machine tools structures. Further, Latex is used as an additive for enhancing the vibration damping capacity of cement composites. A grinding machine column has been designed and fabricated using the developed cementitious composite and its performance has been evaluated. Test results revealed better dynamic properties for MFRCC column than cast iron column.
