Local anesthetics are sometimes used against itch: eutectic mixture of local anesthetics (EMLA). EMLA has been successfully used against postburn pruritus in children4 and experimental pruritus induced by papain or cowhage9 but not histamine-induced pruritus.13 Polidocanol has been successfully used against itch in uremic pruritus, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis.12 © 2010 Springer-Verlag London.
