Abstract

Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a rare disease mainly affecting the appendicular osseous system. Axial FD is even rarer and, therefore, can be challenging to diagnose. Unmanaged axial FD can affect morbidity and quality of life. Detection, diagnosis, and proper therapeutic intervention are paramount to management. Imaging studies can be unreliable in detecting subtle abnormalities. In such cases, a comprehensive history and detailed physical examination establish diagnosis and guide treatment.
