Abstract

The use of cellular phones has not fully been permitted up to now due to the possible negative effect on medical equipment in hospitals. Under the circumstance, a proper electromagnetic environmental design which can secure the safety of medical equipment is desired to be developed. Meantime, wireless communication equipment like the wireless LAN and hospital PHS being permitted for the use by in-hospital medical staff members, has been popularized. Although the layout of these communication equipments is generally designed through field survey after the completion of the hospital building, an adequate electromagnetic environmental design is desired to be prepared before the building construction. Focusing on the hospital PHS being widely used as an in-hospital communication infrastructure, this study examined the electromagnetic environment evaluation method. Practically, the electromagnetic environment was analyzed by the electromagnetic environment simulation system utilizing the Ray Trace Method, the correlation between the result of this analysis and the measured result of the electric intensity of the hospital PHS was obtained. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
