Abstract

The growing energy demand and depletion of the fossil fuel lead to the search for alternative energy sources. The Solar energy is available in abundance and the conversion of solar energy into electricity and for other applications are in progress for the past years. The Parabolic trough concentrating method of collecting the solar radiations and converting into other forms for different purposes is finding very attractive nowadays. The PTC system can be operated in the range of 40–650 °C temperature. The PTC technology can be used for producing electricity as well as for other applications such as desalination of water, for melting glass and metals. In this papers the application of the technology in recent years has been reviewed and presented.
