Abstract

Long-distance transported exotic pollen have repeatedly been used in correlating arctic pollen zones with more southerly ones and they have also been used in an attempt to reconstruct palaeo-winds reaching Baffin Island. Quite many species of exotic pollen are found in S.Greenland samples, like oak, hemlock, elm, beech and ash, but only a few in statistically sufficient numbers; pine, spruce, alder, wormwood and ragweed. Among these the last mentioned is most rare, but even so, its occurrence in Holocene Greenland sediments may give information as to palaeo-winds.-from Author
