Abstract

Objective: To characterize the adolescents with cytological alteration who attended a diagnostic confirmation in a health institution. Methods: Analytical observational study. The population was all women under 19 years. The information was obtained from the institution's database. Variables related to the result of cytology and biopsy were analyzed. Univariate and bivariate analysis was performed; the OR was calculated with its confidence interval (95% CI) and level of significance. Exploratory concordance calculations were performed. Results: Low-grade intraepithelial lesion was the most frequent with 43.8%, the opportunity for colposcopy access had a median of 47 days. The factors associated with high-grade intracervical neoplasia were: health affiliation regimen p: 0.003 (OR 3.1 CI 1.39-7.0), high-grade intraepithelial lesion in cytology p: 0.0004 (OR 7.66 CI 2.08-28.18) and the result of grade I in colposcopy with p: 0.02 (OR 6.33 IC 1.10-36.16) and grade II p: <0.0001 (OR 31.9 IC 5.8-173). Conclusions: Adolescent girls are a special group of women seen from the perspective of cervical pathology; they can present high frequencies of low-grade cytological abnormalities, low rates of high-grade intracervical malignancies and no cervical cancer.
