Abstract

Innovative engineering education plays a vital role in promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization worldwide. Creative Mechanical Design is a course open to senior students and graduate students for enhancing their creative design capability. The shortcoming of the current creative mechanical design course, such as time-consuming model and simulation, fewer innovative schemes and prototypes, leads students to have little chance to practice creative thinking training. This paper proposes a virtual assistant teaching platform for creative mechanical design to automatically help students operating 3D modeling, simulation, and optimization selection of creative design schemes within a minimal experimental time. Thus, the platform dramatically enhances the efficiency of the creative design process. As a result, students are freed from onerous innovation processes and have more energy to engage in creative thinking training from different perspectives and compare innovative techniques. Consequently, students’ enthusiasm for carrying out creative mechanical design is stimulated.
