Abstract

In his essay on “Peacebuilding Through Minjung Art”, Kim demonstrates how visual art, especially woodcuts and murals, do not take place in a cultural, religious or artistic vacuum. Kim’s analysis of the role of Minjung Art in peacebuilding is enriched by his discussion of related poetry and practical protests, highlighting the importance of promoting justice in order to bring peace. Kim reflects on the mural (1983) and wood block (1987) Dreaming of Reunification, and considers how visual arts can imagine hoped for forms of peace.
