Most patients with systemic sclerosis develop gastrointestinal manifestations. The small intestine, large intestine, and anorectal regions are affected in 40-80 %, 20-50 %, and 50-70 % of patients, respectively. Gastrointestinal manifestations may increase morbidity and mortality, reduce quality of life, and result in malnutrition.
