Abstract

The ecology of the city encompasses both the built (grey) and vegetative (green) infrastructure of the city. This chapter looks at how human actors adapt and change the built environment of the city and how these socio-cultural decisions affect urban metabolism. Three case studies are examined: Rome (slow), New York (moderate) and Bangkok (fast).
