To date, no psychosocial or psychopharmacological treatments have been designed specifically to address suicidal behavior that meet the criteria to be classified as an empirically supported treatment. Below we review the few studies conducted on adolescents with suicidal behavior that have used individual, family, and group therapy, as well as several studies of treatment programs. Only studies with experimental or quasi-experimental designs are reviewed. Because individual therapy is the most common treatment modality, we describe a case example in which selected cognitive-behavioral techniques are implemented.
