Abstract

Decimal numbers are converted into binary numbers for digital processing applications. In addition to binary number system, octal and hexadecimal number systems are also used for digital processing. Apart from numeric data, digital signal processing requires analog data. Binary codes are used to represent analog data. Number systems and binary codes are explained. When binary codes are transmitted, bit errors might be observed at receiving end. Bit error detection methods, namely, single parity check, two dimensional parity check, check sum and cyclic redundancy, are presented.
