Thin-disk laser technology [1, 2] combines the inherent advantages of allowing extremely high average power, excellent beam quality, and high peak power levels [3]. In this chapter the benefits and limitations of the thin-disk concept with respect to ultrafast operation will be discussed. Different aspects of pulse duration, energy, peak- and average-power will be presented, reflecting the state of the art, with latest updates as of 2015.
