Abstract

The art of preventing complications involves all series of actions that a surgeon and medical team do to prevent errors. Error is intrinsic not only to the human condition, but also to large systems due to the complexity of medicine and the medical systems. Although the human experience and our professional lives are not exempt of errors, we should strive to provide error-free care, acknowledging the levels at which errors occurs, why they occur, and how we can learn and improve to mitigate both personal and system based errors.
