Abstract

The author highlights the inherent advantages of each procedure (cervicoplasty and liposuction) and indications of performing one over the other. The aging process is discussed as well as the elements of the aging process of the lower face and the evaluation of the patient. Aging involves deposition of fat as well as redundancy or banding of the underlying platysma muscles. Rejuvenation of this area must therefore include both components. Cervicoplasty is a much more comprehensive surgical option compared to liposuction of the submental area. It provides a direct view allowing for an open liposuction of the supraplatysmal fat as well as a formal platysmaplasty.
