Medial opening wedge tibial osteotomy

Abstract

The patient was identified in the preoperative holding area and the involved extremity was marked. The patient was brought to the operating room and positioned supine on the operating table. General (or regional) anesthesia was induced by the anesthesiologist. All pressure points were well padded. Pre-op IV antibiotics (name and dose) were administered. A thigh tourniquet was placed, and the extremity was prepped and draped in a sterile fashion. Elastic bandage was used to exsanguinate the limb, and the tourniquet was inflated to —mm Hg. A 7 cm longitudinal skin incision was made approximately 3 cm medial to the tibial tubercle, and blunt dissection was used to reach the level of the pes anserinus tendons. These were elevated and retracted posteriorly along with the superficial medial collateral ligament.
