Abstract

Abaca pulping materials are of different types depending upon the desired quality of abaca pulp. For excellent quality pulp, spindle stripped fiber is needed; for high quality pulp, hand stripped, decorticated fiber or abaca coir; for good quality, tuxy or bacnis, and for low quality pulp, chips or ribbons. There are 3 categories of abaca paper products, such as the very thin tissues, the cultural papers and industrial papers. The main characteristics of the very thin tissue utilizing abaca fiber are light weight, low bulk, and high strength. Cultural papers require fibers with high strength and unusual durability. This fiber is also utilized in the production of industrial paper such as power cable paper, telephone insulating paper, transformer boards and others.
