Abstract

In recent years, a group of evidence-based psychotherapies have been noted to share in common the incorporation of the principles of acceptance and mindfulness, and they have been collectively termed 'third-wave' behavioral interventions. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an exemplar of this family of psychotherapy. It has been used in many clinical and nonclinical populations, from the treatment of depression, anxiety, addictions, and psychosis, to improving patient outcomes with diabetes and epilepsy, to reducing stigma and burnout.
