Abstract

The Special Economic Zones (SEZs) programme in Mauritius has contributed to the country's industrialisation and aided in its diversification from a predominantly agricultural economy into manufacturing. The SEZs programme has had a number of positive economic effects in Mauritius. In zoning in on Mauritius SEZs, this study aims to primarily explore the Mauritian SEZs structure, evolution and macroeconomic impact since the zones inception. Key policy prescriptions are then offered regarding the sustainability of economic zones.
