Abstract

A scale for measuring innovation index is being proposed. Product samples are subjected to a detailed value analysis using link graphs. Link graphs are plotted based on qualitative aspects such as of usability, aesthetics, and ergonomics contributing features in a product assembly—as viewed from the product user’s point of view. Links and interconnections in terms of roles played and value added by qualitative factors are plotted and analyzed through one of the case study examples. Two versions of the designs are compared to enumerate the degree of innovation between the two. This index is proposed to be used as comparative measure of innovation for products belonging to the same functional category.
