Abstract

We propose the transfer of Pseudonocardia azurea and “Pseudonocardia fastidiosa” to the genus Amycolatopsis as Amycolatopsis azurea (Omura et al.) comb. nov. and Amycolatopsis fastidiosa (ex Celmer et al.) sp. nov. based on the similarity of their morphological and chemotaxonomical properties to those of this genus: a cell wall composition of type IV, lack of mycolic acids, menaquinones MK-9(H2, H4), iso/anteiso-branched fatty acids, type II phospholipid pattern, and lack of budding. The type strain of A. azurea is DSM 43854T (NRRL 11412), and that of A. fastidiosa is DSM 43855T (ATCC 31181).
