Abstract

For the low-pressure turbine profile T106C, there exists a wide range of published numerical results obtained with large eddy simulation using different numerical methods. These results show a considerable variation in blade pressure and wake pressure loss profiles. In order to be able to fairly assess advanced numerical methods such as high-order discretisation or synthetic turbulence inflow conditions, the numerical setup with laminar inflow and spanwise periodicity has been assessed considering the statistical error on mean values due to finite averaging times. The analysis includes a variation of inflow boundary conditions with respect to their formulation as well as the distance of the inflow boundary from the blade and a variation of the spanwise domain size. Since all results have been obtained with the same solver, the differences in the results can be attributed to different choices in the setup.
