Abstract

A mononuclear terbium(III) complex, [TbL1] [H3L1 = tris(2-(2-hydroxy-3-methylbenzylideneamino)ethyl)amine, was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The compound crystallizes in a trigonal system, space group P3 and Z = 2 with cell parameters of a = 12.2874(4)Å, c = 10.8085(5)Å, V = 1413.24(9)Å3. A crystal structure analysis revealed that the complex is pseudo-helical, and that the Schiff-base behaves as a tri-deprotonated heptadentate ligand, encapsulating the metal ion within the N4O3 cavity. 2011 © The Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry.
