Abstract

With increasing number and complexity of catheter-based cardiovascular interventions exposure to ionizing radiation to patients and personnel has markedly increased. To avoid X-ray exposure-related health damage besides the knowledge of the operational principles of the X-ray equipment, a detailed knowledge and understanding of radiation protection is required. In this chapter, relevant principles are reviewed and measures designed to minimize the X-ray radiation exposure are discussed.
