The chapter introduces different perspectives on advanced design, positioning it among different interpretations of the design activity, and describing it as a wide and open field rather than as a precise and clearly focused operational area. In order to do this, the author highlights different tensions that draw spaces where advanced design can be positioned, proposing not only an interpretative, but also a generative frame, and a process model that can be adopted to make advanced design a practice.
