Abstract

This appendix discusses Apache Ambari (refer to Chapter 9), which is an open-source tool for monitoring the Hadoop cluster. The purpose of this appendix is to describe the purpose of an external monitoring tool for Hadoop and the capabilities it provides. All major installations of Hadoop use similar tools. For example, Cloudera provides Cloudera Manager to perform functions similar to what Ambari provides. Ambari is fully open source and is discussed in this chapter as an illustration. You will encounter similar tools when you work on your Hadoop project. This appendix provides a flavor of what to expect when using such a tool.
