Abstract

It is widely known that Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) help to driver safely maneuver on the road and most ITS technologies are made to collision avoidance. Especially, Parking assistant systems help easily park in parking lots. There have been done few research works for this topic since Top-View system is new field. In this paper, framework for Bird-view surrounding monitor system using Modified-SIFT based stitching method is presented. This framework includes some basic steps (camera calibration, distortion removal and bird-view transformation algorithms), image stitching method using modified image feature extraction/matching algorithm and obstacle detection method. For evaluation, series of simulations and experiments are conducted, where Modified-SIFT algorithm in some cases showed a bit better results. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
