Abstract

In the last decade, the appearance of new alter-natives of classification of cry units it has brought us near to the feasible materialization of an automatic cry classifier. The paper presents a contribution based in the use of fuzzy logic combined with compression methodology yielding satisfactory results, which is added to other novel approaches recently developed such as the connectionist model and the neuro-evolutionary ones. Under the perspective of two approaches inside the area of the fuzzy logic, the Type-2 Fuzzy Set and the Fuzzy Relational Product, two experiments were developed in order to successfully validate the new approach to the infant cry classification. © 2013 Springer.
