Abstract

If blindness is easily understood by everyone, low vision is usually less known by the general public or even by some medical staff. There are multiple causes to visual impairment. They may be of ocular origin but also cerebral. The purpose of this article is to present the main types of visual impairments and their everyday repercussions. At first, the different aspects of the visual function will be explained. Indeed, vision is not just the perception of small black letters on a white background. The main types of visual impairment will be described as well as their functional implications.
