Technical advances within the field of molecular diagnostics and the desire for minimal turnaround time have led to substantial efforts toward achieving point-of-care testing kits in molecular diagnostics. The emerging products promise powerful benefits to the medical field, but they will also likely bring unprecedented challenges and regulations to the field of point-of-care testing. This chapter addresses the potential benefits and obstacles of point-of-care molecular diagnostics, with particular emphasis on the training of testing personnel.
