Abstract

The actual data on vitamin D and breast cancer can be summarized as follows: • The evidence for an interaction between vitamin D and breast cancer is not sufficient enough to change general alimentation recommendations. However, a vitamin D deficiency should be treated as recommended by the German Nutrition Society in order to reach normal 25(OH)D3 serum levels. • Routine determination of 25(OH)D3 serum levels is not recommended. But vitamin D deficiency should be detected. • A recommendation for vitamin D supplementation in general in order to reduce the incidence of breast cancer or to improve the outcome cannot be given.
