Reduction of the supraorbital ridges

Abstract

Although it is possible that some plastic surgeons have re-duced a prominent supraorbital ridge for either asymme-try or abnormal prominence, there have not been many reports in the medical literature on this subject [1].The author's original intent was to reduce a thick, pro-truding superciliary ridge in male transsexuals in order to give the ridge a more feminine appearance. After suc-cess with male transsexuals, the operation was extended to women with a thicker, low, or downward-slanting lateral portion of the supraorbital ridge giving them a hard or sad appearance. The bone reduction may be useful in some men who have a very thick and low su-praorbital ridge giving them a suspicious appearance. © Springer-Verlag 2008.
