Abstract
The important topic of spina bifida is considered from a point of view of etiology and anatomy. The signs, investigation and treatment are outlined and the issue of conservative management is alluded to. Nevertheless, the operation is described and illustrated. Complications and finally prognosis is considered. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
