Abstract

The results presented are an attempt to classify beaches into three basic types dissipative, rhythmic and reflective based on response to the level of breaker wave height for microtidal, medium to fine sand beaches. The characteristics associated with each beach type are tabulated for breaker wave height, two dimensional beach profile response over time zones of sediment storage, two dimensional alongshore variation in beach profile and other morphometric parameters.
