Against the background of continuing migration and refugee movements into the European Union, parties of the national-conservative spectrum are on the rise. Negative attitudes towards immigrants as well as a general rejection of immigration can increasingly be observed in the middle of society. Following on from earlier work, the study examines for Germany the effects of relatively stable values on rather volatile opinions and attitudes towards immigration and immigration policy. We assume that internalised values predict attitudes towards immigration, especially when related motivational goals are either favoured or hindered by immigration. In contrast to previous research, we assume that this influence is moderated by other causally linked explanatory factors. The suspected relationships are analysed using structural equation modelling and data from the seventh wave (2014/2015) of the European Social Survey (ESS). (translated by DeepL)
