Abstract

Using the example of Longtai Village in Hunan Province, China, this paper attempts to explore the potential of rural resources to meet local needs through participatory design interventions, thereby empowering villages and creating more social value. The authors focused on fieldworks and interviews to obtain specific information about local resources and needs. Then, after comparison and analysis, bamboo resources and bamboo crafts were selected as the rural resources for this study to meet the actual needs of local elementary school. The paper details the conduct of the study and analyzes the experiences and methods of the participatory design intervention. Finally, the authors summarized the paradigm of using rural resources to meet local needs through participatory design interventions. In addition, the authors pointed out the limitations of this paper and made assumptions about future research plans.
