Abstract

For predators, in an overwhelming number of cases, foraging means detecting and seizing another animal. Since all animals, particularly vertebrates, are elusive and shy, hunting is inherently inflicted with high risk of failure and sometimes of injury, too. Yet foraging is the most important of activities for it largely determines where and when a predator abides. In this chapter, the feeding ecology of carnivores and raptors dwelling in Białowieża Primeval Forest receives meticulous attention.
