As the American, European and Chinese space agencies announce the return of human beings to the moon, and leading private companies work on plans to massively expand space tourism, the Jacques Rougerie Foundation is committed to exploring a bold and disruptive approach to space architecture. Challenging our ideas about the place of humans in the infinite universe, the Innovation and Architecture for Space award sets out a vision for a sustainable and inclusive galactic world of the future. The winning projects, each more extraordinary than the last, help to advance international scientific research. They include innovative energy-saving devices, the highly advanced integration of innovative materials, and even the exploitation of lunar and martian natural resources. From a moon settlement to an industrial outpost on the surface of the Rosetta asteroid and a spacecraft bound for Mars, each project transports us to a cosmic horizon as tangible as it is exhilarating.
