Abstract

Infl ammation was described as early as 3000 BC in an Egyptian papyrus [ 1 ] and is still a common problem despite continuous advancements in prevention and treatment methods. The delineation of the site and extent of infl ammation are crucial to the clinical management of infection and for monitoring the response to therapy [ 2 ].
