Abstract

In our economies the service sector becomes increasingly important. In parallel nearly ubiquitously accessible information reinforces people's desire for self determination. As client e. g. in the education, finance and mobility industry or as patient in health care consumers want to select and compile even complex services self dependently. Information technology (IT) has to support such kind of customerenabled orchestration of complex services. This may have widespread consequences since many needs and areas of life are affected and many different service providers may be involved. There is a strong need for research on IT in different disciplines in order to be able to manage and design this paradigmshift. Up to now these disciplines too often act separately but have to be connected. Research and training has to become more and more transdisciplinary. This holds especially for informatics, medical informatics and business informatics. © Springer-Verlag 2012.
