Services have become more complex as an increasing number of actors conjointly creates value – often facilitated by technology. In fact, it does not only enable firms to digitize processes and improve value creation but also to create innovative services that are disrupting markets. A prominent example of this development is the so-called Sharing Economy, in which companies are taking self-service to the extreme by leveraging technology to externalize resources to other actors.
