Abstract

This chapter briefly introduces some reflections on the repercussions that new information and communication technologies have on society and on design. Starting from a in-context reflection on the implications of digital tools on design, we analyse the concept of model and parameter. Below are some examples of parameters that are influencing and have influenced the forms, conformations and ways of living in a propaedeutic vision compatible with other fields of research such as parametric urban planning and the extensive use of geographic information systems. These parameters may not all be closely related to the digital world but linked to data and information and the way in which they are identified, analysed and defined. Lastly, the chapter introduces and examines the main areas of interaction and change between society and ICT.
