The patient was identified in the preoperative holding area. The affected upper extremity was marked. The patient was brought to the operating room. He/she received general anesthesia. IV antibiotics were administered. The patient was placed in the beach chair position. A sandbag was placed under the medial border of the scapula. The head was supported by soft head rests and the ears were protected. All the other bony prominences of the lower extremities and the left upper extremity were protected by soft cushions. The shoulder and the surrounding area were prepped and draped in the standard manner, with the upper extremity draped free.
