Abstract

When studying higher education in Latin America, Ecuador has received very little attention. Researchers have tended to focus on larger countries, such as Mexico, Argentina, and Chile, leaving countries like Ecuador abandoned from systematic research (Jameson 1997). Although Ecuador has been exposed to noticeable changes during the last ten years, there continues to be a lack of research on its higher education system. As such there is little empirical information available. This study is an attempt to contribute to the literature by examining Ecuador’s recent reform in higher education.
