Abstract

This chapter describes the preparation and staging of the first ever Paralympic Winter Games in Russia, which has brought positive changes in the social perception of people with impairments and created a long-term legacy for them—tangible and intangible—not only in the host city but also in the region and the country. From the bid process to the Games themselves, through all stages of planning, operational readiness, pre-Games and the transition period, the author shares with the reader unique information about Paralympic-specific tasks, projects and programmes that were integrated into the Organising Committee activities and were implemented in reality to create the best ever Winter Paralympic Games in the history of the Paralympic Movement.
